Tens of thousands of people gathered in the center of Budapest to protest against the government of Viktor Orban. reports Reuters agency.

Protesters marched to parliament, some of them shouting: “We are not afraid” and “Orban resign!” Many waved Hungarian flags.

The demonstration was led by Peter Magyar, a former member of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, who worked in various government agencies and banks. He is now planning to create his own political party and challenge Fidesz in the elections to the European Parliament and local municipalities, which will take place in June this year.

In March Peter Magyar published archival footage of his ex-wife Judit Varga, who recently resigned as the country’s justice minister, accusing members of the prime minister’s inner circle of a corruption scandal. He also turned over this recording to law enforcement agencies.

According to Magyar, this recording proves that the head of the cabinet of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Antal Rogan, forged documents related to a corruption case involving the former Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, Pal Welner.

According to the Median poll, which was published in mid-March, 68% of voters had heard of Magyar’s entry into the political arena, and 13% of them said they were likely to support his party.
