Gary Neville FUMES at Man United’s midfield ‘for not doing the basics’ in tricky first half against Liverpool… as Jamie Carragher says high press leaves Casemiro ‘really exposed’

Gary Neville was left exasperated with Manchester United’s midfielders in what was a very difficult first half against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s title chasers took an early lead through Luis Diaz and with United pushing in search of an equaliser, they left so much space in midfield to be exploited.

‘It’s so easy to play against Man Utd’s midfield,’ Neville said during commentary. ‘Casemiro and Mainoo are both pressing. It’s basic stuff.’

There was another moment when Bruno Fernandes went charging after a ball, to the annoyance of Neville.

‘He’s never going to get that ball! Some of the things that Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have done in the first half, it really is incredible for their experience. It’s desperate defending from United.’

For Jamie Carragher on co-commentary, he was left amazed at how isolated Casemiro was being left, particularly by Kobbie Mainoo, who was supposed to be playing alongside him.

‘He’s left really exposed,’ Carragher said.
