3 ministers discuss mechanisms for implementing a safe waste disposal system in tourist facilities

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, received Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, and Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, at the Ministry of Environment headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, where an expanded meeting was held to discuss mechanisms for implementing the safe waste disposal system in tourist facilities nationwide.< /span>

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Yasmine Fouad thanked the ministers, praising the continuous coordination and cooperation between all concerned parties to advance the waste system, and the continuous follow-up and evaluation of this system in terms of planning and implementation on the ground in order to achieve tangible results.

 

For his part, Major General Hisham Amna pointed out the good level of cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the ministries concerned with the municipal solid waste system on the lands of all governorates, to implement the directives of the political leadership and the Prime Minister’s assignments to improve the level of service and achieve citizen satisfaction, especially in light of the large investments that the state has pumped into implementing projects. System infrastructure.

 

This meeting comes based on the assignments of the Council of Ministers in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities regarding the mechanisms for activating some of the articles contained in the Waste Management Regulation Law No. 202 of 2020, related to implementing the system of safe disposal of waste in tourist facilities across the Republic, as these procedures include collection, transportation, recycling, and burial. Safe sanitation of waste. During the meeting, the policies were reviewed on the basis of which these procedures were determined, which do not prejudice the contracts of these tourist facilities.

 

During the meeting, the ministers also reviewed how to implement integrated waste management in tourist facilities in South Sinai, given the city’s tourism importance, as well as the mechanism for dealing with recyclable materials  This must be done through licensed companies, according to the type of waste, where statistics are generated on the percentage of waste that is recycled.< /p>

  

The ministers agreed on the necessity of holding a coordination meeting during the coming period to follow up on the implementation of procedures related to the waste system in South Sinai, in the presence of the Governor of South Sinai. In parallel, it was agreed to start implementing these procedures in tourist facilities throughout the Republic.

 

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Al-Wasif, Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers, and a number of leaders from the Ministry of Environment, including Dr. Tariq Al-Arabi, CEO of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, Professor Yasser Abdullah, Assistant Minister for Waste Affairs, and from the Ministry of Local Development, Dr. Khaled Qassem, Assistant Minister for Institutional Development, Engineer Ahmed Atef, Director of the Waste Unit, Dr. Mona Shehab, World Bank Project Coordinator in the Waste Unit, and from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Professor Youmna Al-Bahar, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and Minister’s Office Affairs, and Mr. Mohamed Amer, Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourism Activities.
