Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough Supporting Emmys for Under the Bridge

Hulu has announced its submissions for the Primetime Emmy Awards for the upcoming crime drama “Under the Bridge.”

Stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough will both be submitted for Emmy consideration in supporting actress in a limited series or TV movie, it was revealed to Variety exclusively. The two stars will be vying for one of seven possible slots against possible contenders such as Sandra Oh from “The Sympathizer,” Kali Reis from “True Detective: Night Country” and multiple women from FX’s “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” notably Diane Lane.

“Under the Bridge” is an adaptation of Rebecca Godfrey’s gripping book, delving into the true story of 14-year-old Reena Virk, a teen who didn’t return home after attending a party in 1997. The series unfolds through the perspectives of Godfrey (portrayed by Keough) and a local police officer (played by Gladstone), exposing the world of her peers who were implicated in the case.

A Hulu spokesperson tells Variety: “Given that the series is a true ensemble piece covering multiple storylines from both character’s point of views, we felt this decision was the best move not only for the series, but for the outstanding performances that are equally shared on screen by both Gladstone and Keough.”

The ensemble cast also includes Vritika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon Walton, Izzy G., Aiyana Goodfellow, Ezra Faroque Khan, Emmy winner Archie Panjabi and “American Idol” season eight alum Anoop Desai.

Gladstone has been making waves in the industry, after becoming the first Native American to earn a best actress Oscar nomination for her role as an Osage woman seeking answers to her tribe’s murders in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” This year, she takes on her next big roles in “Fancy Dance,” which premiered at Sundance and was acquired by Apple, along with shooting projects like Morrisa Maltz’s “Jazzy” and Reed Morano’s “The Memory Police.”

Meanwhile, Keough continues to shine after her Primetime Emmy nod for lead actress in Amazon’s music drama limited series “Daisy Jones & the Six.” Her diverse body of work includes performances in films like Janicza Bravo’s “Zola” (2020) and Andrea Arnold’s “American Honey” (2016). She made her directorial debut with the independent drama “War Pony,” alongside Gina Gammell. The film premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section where it won the Caméra d’Or, which awards the best first feature film.

“Under the Bridge” was adapted by Quinn Shephard. Shephard, Samir Mehta, Liz Tigelaar, Stacey Silverman, Geeta Vasant Patel and Tara Duncan are executive producers. Godfrey also served as an executive producer. Keough will executive produce with Gina Gammell. Patel also directed the series, which is produced by ABC Signature.

The series premieres with two episodes on April 17, followed by weekly releases. Emmy submissions must be completed by May 9 with the eligibility deadline for all series concluding their runs by May 31.
