"This is a very restrictive order." : employees of the Monnaie de Paris who manufacture the Olympic medals are demanding a bonus

Will there be medals for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games? This is the threat that the CGT wants to plan for the Monnaie de Paris where the 5,500 medals for the competition are made. According to the union, on strike for 15 days, delivery times are now threatened. Monday April 8, the strikers received a visit from the general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet.

In front of the golden doors of the Paris Mint building, the fifty strikers present brought a cardboard medal to give to their management. “It’s the medal of contempt from our boss. I hope he will hear it because we’ve been in the streets for days, it’s tiring for everyone and it’s high time let’s go back to work”, testifies one of the employees.

But to return to work, the unions are asking for a bonus. They believe that the annual increase in salaries does not match the efforts made to produce the Olympic medals. “There is a lot of stress, a lot of pressure, it’s a very restrictive order with a deadline. We must not miss the Olympics, we cannot afford it”testifies Stéphane, a coin changer.

The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, received a gold medal from the strikers and did not come empty-handed. “I have come to offer a pen to your management so that they can sign this end-of-conflict agreement,” she shouts to the strikers. “This mobilization is representative of the atmosphere in the country where employers and the government are struggling to get around the negotiating table to provide compensation for the additional effort which is required of many employees and for which there is no there is often not even a bonus linked to the Olympics”believes Sophie Binet.

For its part, the management of the Paris mint ensures that all medals will be delivered on time.
