“I’m unhappy to be the age I am.”

Popeck is preparing to say goodbye to the stage! Now aged 87, the actor spoke of his old age, his “extraordinary fishing” and retirement…

It’s decided, Popeck bows out! But not before making one last lap with his ultimate one-man show entitled “No more laughing! We are closing“. Now aged 87 (he will celebrate his 88th birthday on May 18), the comedian would have liked his career to continue. But then, why is the actor saying goodbye?

Popeck, “unhappy” with his age and “groggy”: he says goodbye

I’m unhappy to be the age I am, especially since I think I’m better now, but you have to be reasonable“, he confided to Nice morning. Popeck has faced the facts: his old age is forcing him to hang up the microphone. “I have seen too many artists push themselves to the limit. I think it’s better to stop in the glory than in the shit‘”, agreed the one who feels in “demographic overrun” compared to national life expectancy.

However, the actor still seems in relatively good shape! “Everyone tells me that I still have extraordinary fishing. (…) But no one sees me backstage before the curtain rises and after the callbacks“, he confided to Evening Mag, in December 2023. The rhythm of the shows is not always easy to maintain! “When I return to my dressing room, I am groggy. However, I have to find the strength to speak with the spectators who tell me very touching things and pose for selfies.“, he also explained.

Popeck, what he really doesn’t want: “If I could die first, that would be great”

If Popeck hopes to live for a while longer, he definitely does not want to live in a retirement home! The comedian had already spoken to Jordan De Luxe on this subject in 2022: “How horrible, my god. If I could die first, that would be great. I would kill myself first“.

In his final show, the comedian, who has more than 60 years of career under his belt, stays in tune with the times by discussing subjects such as teleworking, but also pleases his early fans by repeating cult sketches like “le Bois de Boulogne”.

Popeck is therefore determined to say goodbye to the stage, but not without apprehension, as he confided to Evening Mag : “The problem is that I don’t know how to do anything else and I’m afraid of getting bored. We’ll see. Sometimes I tell myself that my ultimate happiness would be to disappear in the middle of sleep“.
