‘Most flattering’ winter basic from Aussie fashion brand is flying off shelves thanks to this one feature: ‘Go and buy this, it’s perfection’

An Australian fashion brand is struggling to keep a winter basic loved by influencers in stock, because it is proving so popular with many fans labelling the item the ‘best top, ever’. 

Mossman‘s iconic Brooklyn top has been praised by the likes of Elle Ferguson, Georgie Rafferty and Creator Katerina and shoppers are begging the brand to release it in additional colours. 

Shoppers love the winter basic so much because of how flattering the top is, thanks to the clever double layering of fabric, with many sharing that they ‘live’ in the item. 

Creative director and owner of the brand Deanna Depetro says she focuses on ‘fabrications and wearability’ and said that ‘being a Melbourne brand we know how cold it can get here in the Winter. The fact that the top is double layered is a huge bonus. It’s so warm it’s honestly like a thermal.’ 

The popular top also boasts thumb holes, a high round neckline, small size ribbing, long line body length and despite the double layering of fabric it is a light weight knit with small sized ribbing. 

Elle Ferguson described the top as ‘perfection’ and told her followers: ‘Public service announcement everyone needs to go and buy this Mossman top. Perfection! High neck, long sleeves and the fabric feels so good!’ 

The black and white versions of the top have sold out and are only currently available on pre-order but there are a number of new colours that have been added to the collection recently for shoppers to choose from. 

The new shades include a pale pink, a natural oatmeal, burgundy, which Depetro said is ‘the colour of the season’  as well as navy and chocolate coming soon. 

Although fans of the brand were quick to praise the expanded palette available many were requesting even more colours to be added to the collection. 

Stylist Jess Ryan wrote: Please do red for the season! Love these tops. They’re constantly in the wash as I live in them!’ 

Another fan wrote: ‘You keep delivering the best Brooklyn top colours and like i have said before The Brooklyn. Top. Best. Top. Ever. Made. I have both the black and the burgundy but after seeing these beautiful colours I will be purchasing more!’ 

At $129, the top isn’t cheap, but many shoppers have shared that since purchasing it has become a ‘staple’ in their wardrobe and despite considerable wear it a durable piece of clothing. 

Creator Katerina on TikTok shared: ‘PSA for the best basic black top in the history of black tops. The most flattering perfectly cut, cosy and warm just perfect winter staple. I bought it last year, it has been a staple in my wardrobe ever since and it has lasted perfectly.’ 

Mossman clothing has been known for its occasionwear for over 10 years but after a change in pace the brand has shifted focus and its key range is now the Essentials range. 

Since the collection’s launch, the Brooklyn top has been the stand out buy, incredibly popular with shoppers and influencers alike.

The double layering fabric is so popular it has seen the brand release two other styles The Camden and The Soho, using the beloved material.
