Why Iran attacked Israel and what an open war between the two could look like
Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din
The United States and its European allies fear that an April 1 attack in Syria that killed several Iranian officers could push Israel and Iran to the brink of something they have avoided for decades: open war.
So far, Iran has used proxies to attack Israel, while Israel has avoided airstrikes on Iranian soil. That all changed on April 13 when Iran began its military response.
Why did Iran attack Israel?
Iran had vowed revenge since an April 1 airstrike in Syria killed two Iranian generals inside an Iranian consular building. Iran accused Israel of being behind the attack. Israel has not commented on the matter.
