Focused on achieving goals "COP28" ..The World Future Energy Summit kicks off in Abu Dhabi tomorrow

ABU DHABI, 15 APRIL / WAM / The World Future Energy Summit, the most prominent annual forum in the field of future energy and sustainability, will kick off tomorrow at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

The summit is hosted by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, the leading Emirati company in the field of clean energy, as part of an event that attracts the attention of the entire global energy sector towards the Emirati capital.

The 16th session of the summit continues over three days, with a special focus on achieving the agenda agreed upon during the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which Dubai hosted last November.

The summit embraces the most comprehensive knowledge exchange program in its history, with the participation of more than 350 of the most prominent experts, policy makers, academics and global forecasters.

Participants will present their own analyzes on ways to implement the frameworks developed by COP28 through five exploratory conferences and three interactive forums.
Lynn Al-Sibai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Chair of the World Future Energy Summit, said: “The speakers’ platform represents a rich forum for the brightest minds in the energy sector, which will result in discussing and proposing available ways to achieve goals in the fields of sustainability and renewable energy, relying on the latest technologies and amending policies.” and developing economic foundations.

She continued: “The summit thus confirms the UAE’s firm commitment to sustainability and global cooperation to improve the environment.”
The summit agenda includes 6 conferences that address the topics of solar energy, environmental waste, water, clean energy, climate, environment, and smart cities, in addition to a forum dedicated to discussing ways to “control the rate of global temperature rise at 1.5 degrees Celsius,” which is consistent with the outcomes of the COP28 conference, and two other forums on green finance and mobility. The speakers’ platform brings together a diverse group of the most prominent officials in the energy, trade and industry sectors, including policy makers at the ministerial level, along with scientists, financiers, business leaders, digital innovators, and the most important advocates and influencers on climate change agendas.

Participants are looking for ways to attract new investments and find innovative tools to bridge the gap in climate finance, as well as strengthening private sector engagement with regulators and governments, taking carbon emissions into account during decision-making and asset valuation processes, and increasing financing allocated to enhancing adaptive capacity and resilience.

Participants will also discuss in-depth the means available within specific sectors to triple the production capacity of renewable energy to reach 11,000 gigawatts, and other innovative ways to triple nuclear energy by 2050, double energy efficiency during the current decade, and reach near-zero emissions. Zero methane by 2030, in addition to reducing the global use of fossil fuels in energy generation.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of the UAE Independent Accelerators for Climate Change, will deliver the opening speech on guiding countries on how to set the rate of global temperature rise at 1.5 degrees Celsius. Followed by a speech by Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency.
The first day, which is held under the slogan ‘How to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius’, will also witness the participation of Simon Birkbeck, partner at Boston Consulting Group, who is examining the results of the COP28 conference in the field of clean energy and future prospects in this regard. While Mary Warlick, Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, gives a presentation on the steps needed to achieve the energy commitments and pledges of the Troika Presidencies of the COP to achieve the 1.5°C target.
For her part, Mary Warlick said, “Countries must work quickly to fulfill the energy pledges made during the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties, to limit the phenomenon of global warming and prevent the global temperature from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius, as it is time to turn promises into real actions.”

She added, “We in turn emphasize the need for stronger international cooperation through COP29 and COP30, and this summit provides an important opportunity to share the latest data, best practices and tools to address common challenges on the path to a safer and more sustainable energy future.”
Other discussion sessions will host a number of distinguished speakers, including His Excellency Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Rumaithi, CEO of Emirates Steel Group Arkan; Mr. Abdel Nasser Ibrahim Saif bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium; And Engineer Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group, to discuss available ways to control the rate of global temperature rise at 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The Solar and Clean Energy Conference will also start on the first day of the exhibition, and its work will be inaugurated by His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs. Meanwhile, His Excellency Engineer Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity, Water and Future Energy Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, will deliver the keynote speech for the Water Conference.
This year’s summit’s knowledge program witnesses the largest female participation in its history, as it hosts a number of female speakers to present their valuable opinions on many issues, such as climate change, sustainable tourism, smart city technology, the integration of the circular economy, and diversity in the workplace, in addition to many lessons learned from the Conference of the Parties. (COP 28).

It will also host a dedicated discussion session on women entrepreneurs and their leadership role in developing innovative solutions to remove carbon. In addition to the Climate Innovation Exchange Forum – Clix, which is a leading platform for startups founded, led and managed by women, as well as small and medium enterprises and innovative companies, where they can showcase their revolutionary products and solutions to a global audience.
