Former ministers and ambassadors urge the Dutch government to resume its aid to UNRWA in Gaza

A large group of former Dutch ministers and ambassadors urged the Dutch government to resume its contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza.

The ministers and ambassadors wrote, in an open letter to the Dutch Council of Ministers on Monday, " “Any reforms can be made at a later time, but action is required now.” According to the Dutch newspaper NL Times.

The former ambassadors and ministers believe that it is the government’s duty to restore the relationship with UNRWA after it introduced food and medicine. To Gaza for the first time in months, but their distribution faces problems. 

They added that “UNRWA is the only organization that has the infrastructure to enable this distribution quickly and efficiently and in order to alleviate the suffering of the population, such as famine, it is no longer It is possible to boycott this organization.”

The Netherlands suspended its contribution to UNRWA early this year after reports that UN employees may have been involved in Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7th. 

The investigation into these allegations is still ongoing, and the Dutch government is awaiting the results.
