The head of Sheikh Health demands a field visit to the governorates "Comprehensive health insurance" To identify the most prominent obstacles

Representative Ali Mahran, Chairman of the Senate Health and Population Committee, said that we need a pause to discuss the challenges facing the health insurance system.

This came during the plenary session of the Senate, Chaired by Counselor Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razek, during the discussion of a request submitted by Representative Mohamed Salah Al-Badry and twenty members, to clarify the government’s policy regarding the challenges facing the comprehensive health insurance system, and the rate of its spread, with the start of implementation of the second phase in the moderately populated governorates.

The Chairman of the Senate Health and Population Committee explained that our goal is to work on the success of this system, pointing out that there were questions directed to the government on January 9, 2023, where the Senate Health and Population Committee held a meeting. With comprehensive insurance officials, to include the governorate in the second phase, and stability was made in Minya due to its infrastructure and financial sustainability. We thank the government for responding to the committee’s requests and it was announced in the second phase, but since settling in Minya, what has been prepared for this issue, whether medical staff or workers? Or facilities, since the population of Minya Governorate is equal to the population of all governorates of the first stage, and it only has 3 accredited hospitals, is it possible to provide service to 7 million citizens through them?

The Chairman of the Senate Health and Population Committee revealed that the participation rate of the private sector in comprehensive health insurance is very weak, as it consists of only one hospital and 4 medical centers, most of which are ophthalmology. Even the pharmacies that were accredited did not benefit from the accreditation and patients were not referred to them.

The Chairman of the Senate Health and Population Committee confirmed that the law needs to be re-examined, especially Article 40, which needs to be reformulated, and the necessity of conducting a field visit to the comprehensive health insurance governorates to identify the most prominent obstacles.
