In Pakistan, at least 36 people were killed by lightning and rain, and 33 people were killed by floods in neighboring Afghanistan. This was reported by the authorities of the countries, reports Associated Press.

Several Pakistani farmers diedwhile harvesting wheat when they were struck by lightning. Several more Pakistanis died under the rubble of houses that collapsed due to downpours. A state of emergency has been declared in the southwest of the country. Showers are forecast to continue.

According to environmentalist Rafay Alam, heavy April rains in Pakistan are an unusual phenomenon due to climate change. Alam also blamed him for the massive flood in the summer of 2022, when more than 1,700 people died and a third of Pakistan was flooded.

Seasonal rains in Afghanistan called severe floods. In addition to people, about two hundred farm animals died. The water destroyed large areas of agricultural land and kilometers of roads. “Flash” floods were recorded in twenty out of 34 provinces. Continued downpours are expected in most regions.
