Locals baffled after ‘alien’ creature was spotted on West Australian beach: ‘It looks like spaghetti’

A beachgoer was left baffled when they spotted a tentacled ‘alien’-like sea creature on the sand.

The West Australian mum was strolling along the beach in Ledge Point, an hour and 20 minutes north of Perth when she came across something she didn’t recognise.

Thick white rubbery strands were protruding from the sand that looked like jellyfish tentacles or something ‘extra-terrestrial’ scattered all over the beach.

Many shared their guesses as to what the mystery objects were before the mum worked out it was simply dead seaweed that had been bleached by the sun.

‘Found at the beach in Ledge Point. Some in clumps and some single strands, coming up out of the sand. The kids and I are curious, does anyone know what it is?’ the woman asked in a Reddit post

People were quick to answer with many making legitimate guesses and others poking fun.

‘Linguine. Must have washed over from the Mediterranean Sea in last Friday’s storm,’ one user laughed and another quipped: ‘Udon noodles’.

‘They look like tree roots. Are there plants nearby? Maybe the sand washed away in a storm?’ a third offered.

‘Bleached seagrass. Which is a true plant as opposed to algae,’ someone added.

Other guesses included beach worms and squid eggs and the woman added it felt like ‘bean sprouts’ and didn’t move when poked.

‘It’s another reason not to go to Australia!’ one person joked and another agreed: ‘Whatever it is if it’s in Australia it’ll probably kill you!’

One beach lover said they saw the same thing at Ledge Point and was also wondering what the creature could be.

‘We gave it a yank and it seemed firmly stuck in the sand,’ they added.

Some people suggested it could be dead seaweed that had washed up on the shore and lost its colour from being exposed to the sun.

‘After lots of Google Image searches and a few of these answers, I have come to the conclusion that it’s possibly a seaweed that has been sun-bleached as it’s not underwater,’ the mum decided.
