Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

The authorities of the Gaza Strip announced Monday April 15 that Israel had released around 150 Palestinian prisoners captured during the Israeli military offensive. “It is evident that these prisoners suffered serious mistreatment, as a number of them were sent to Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital for treatment”the spokesperson for the Gaza crossings authority, Hicham Adwan, told AFP.

The group of released prisoners was taken out of Israeli territory via the Kerem Shalom crossing point with the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza crossing authority and an AFP journalist. Once in Palestinian territory, they were treated at Rafah hospital, in the south of the besieged territory, according to the same sources.

For its part, the Israeli army has not commented on the release of these detainees. However, she stated that it was “absolutely prohibited” to mistreat prisoners. During the six months of the Israeli military operation against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, Israeli soldiers arrested dozens of Gazans, detaining them without charge before releasing some.
