Football presenter Kate Abdo breaks down in tears recalling memories with her late father after he died late last year – including a moment from her rarely-mentioned previous marriage

Kate Abdo broke down in tears while speaking about her late father on an episode of her weekly football show ‘Kickin’ It’.

The 42-year-old CBS presenter was visibly emotional as she revealed how her father, Tom Giles, had passed away in December.

Abdo – who is a Manchester United fan – used to spend time travelling to Old Trafford with her father to watch the Red Devils in action.

The British broadcaster said the time she spent watching sport with her father meant ‘everything’ to her and insisted it taught her a lot.

Speaking about her father during the latest episode of ‘Kickin’ It’, Abdo said: ‘That’s why that made me emotional [thinking about my dad].

She went on to add: ‘I just lost my dad in December. The time I spent with him in sports was everything to me.

‘So, hearing how much that meant to you was special. We all know that sports teaches you character.

‘So much of what is special about sports is that it teaches you determination, commitment, durability because of the fact you have to stick with things.

‘What I enjoy about who my dad was, was the example he was to me. The good character he was to me. Also, the fun we had in those moments.

‘I am divorced. I got married a while and he gave the speech at my wedding. One of the things he said to me was you will look back at some point in your life and you will never wish you spent more time at work.

‘You will always value family in those moments that you had. So, yeah. It’s just dope to hear what it means to another father.’

Abdo previously recalled how she grew up attending games at Old Trafford with her father before admitting her mother was a Liverpool supporter.

The CBS presenter also introduced her father to Peter Schmeichel as a special guest during their 2023 interview.
