Football legend Francesco Totti and his glamorous girlfriend visit Bondi restaurant bearing his name – after making stunning call about Australia and the World Cup

Football legend Francesco Totti was recently the toast of Bondi after visiting the iconic Sydney restaurant bearing his name – and he believes Australia should host a men’s World Cup sooner rather than later.

Totti – who represented AS Roma for his entire senior career before retiring in 2017 – was joined by his glamorous girlfriend Noemi Bocchi at the country’s most famous beach.

Australia’s nemesis at the 2006 World Cup following his injury-time penalty in the round of 16 clash was seen gazing at the menu on Bondi Road before continuing his stroll around one of the nation’s ritziest suburbs.

After successfully co-hosting the Women’s World Cup with New Zealand last year, Totti is adamant a men’s tournament would be a huge success down under.

‘I see a lot of potential in Australia hosting a men’s World Cup as well,’ he told News Corp.

‘You have got the right mentality, the people love football, the numbers in fans and stadiums.

‘The woman’s World Cup was an appetiser…and it would be really good to receive a men’s World Cup as well.’

Totti, 47, added one potential stumbling block with FIFA could be ‘too many round stadiums’ – but he is adamant ‘Australia has the potential to do big things in football if it is organised properly.’

He was flown Down Under by Racing City Group Australasia for a number of speaking engagements.

The attacking midfielder made his Serie A debut in 1993 – and despite many offers elsewhere across his decorated career, Totti stayed loyal to the Yellow and Reds.

Totti is widely regarded as the club’s greatest ever player, scoring 250 goals in 619 appearances.

His highlight was winning a Serie A title in 2001 – before also being crowned the Italian Footballer of the Year on five occasions.
