Sharif Al Olama: The UAE has a firm commitment to investing in clean and renewable energy

Abu Dhabi, April 17 / WAM / His Excellency Engineer Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, confirmed that the UAE has a firm commitment to investing in clean and renewable energy.
His Excellency said, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit, which was launched in Abu Dhabi yesterday: “The country’s production of solar energy in 2018 amounted to about 2 gigawatts and is currently 6 gigawatts, and we aim to reach about 14.2 gigawatts.” gigawatt in 2030.”

He added that this development reflects the economic feasibility of renewable and clean energy projects, and confirms the progress regarding large and economically feasible projects in the field of renewable energy, pointing to the UAE’s keenness to diversify the energy mix and implement various projects in this regard, the most prominent of which is the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plant Project, which produces About 5,600 megawatts of environmentally friendly electricity.

He explained that in 2021, as part of the energy strategy, the Ministry formed the national team concerned with energy and water demand management, which achieved, by the end of 2023, a reduction of approximately 13% of energy consumption in four main sectors: water consumption in agriculture, and water and electricity consumption in buildings. Electricity consumption in industry, in addition to fuel consumption in transportation.
Scientists said that efforts to reduce emissions in the transportation sector include an infrastructure project for electric car chargers.

He pointed out that the Council of Ministers approved the formation of a new company through a partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company, with the aim of expanding the infrastructure for electricity chargers and increasing the proportion of electric cars in the country.

He added that there will be contracts with private sector companies to change or introduce existing systems in the 422 federal government buildings that consume the most energy and water in all the Emirates, including health, educational and administrative buildings, in order to reduce electricity and water consumption in them, explaining that the goal is to reduce energy consumption in them by 30%. .
