The UAE pledges $100 million in support of the Sudanese people

Abu Dhabi, April 17 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates pledged to provide 100 million US dollars in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan and neighboring countries.

His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, praised during his participation in the meetings of the International Humanitarian Conference on Sudan that took place in the French capital, Paris, and which were held jointly organized by France, Germany and the European Union and with the participation of a number of countries and international and regional organizations, aimed at advancing initiatives. Peace for Sudan will move forward with tireless efforts aimed at ending the crisis due to which the Sudanese people have suffered the most, and restoring the political track in Sudan, stressing the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to push for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and to ensure full access to humanitarian aid.

These high-level meetings discussed initiatives seeking to bring peace to Sudan and ways to strengthen them, and witnessed the adoption of a document declaring principles to support a solution to the conflict that has been ongoing since April 2023, in addition to strengthening humanitarian and diplomatic efforts to address the humanitarian challenges facing the Sudanese people.

In the UAE’s speech to the conference, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan affirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting international efforts for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, finding a peaceful solution to the crisis, continuing to support the Sudanese people and its pledge to provide 100 million US dollars in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan and neighboring countries.

His Excellency discussed the efforts of the UAE and the concrete steps it has provided to alleviate the humanitarian conditions in Sudan and neighboring countries, as the total value of relief aid directed to those affected by the conflict, which included medical, food and relief supplies, amounted to 150 million US dollars, in addition to the opening of an integrated field hospital in the city of Abéché in The Republic of Chad is the second one built by the UAE in support of Sudanese refugees, at a cost of $20 million.

His Excellency explained that the UAE aid to Sudan and neighboring countries comes within the framework of the wise leadership’s continued keenness to provide humanitarian and relief support to the brotherly Sudanese people, and the great interest that the United Arab Emirates pays to humanitarian challenges and its commitment to continuing to extend a helping hand, support and humanitarian support to them.

On the political side, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan renewed the position of the UAE calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and working to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, by returning to the political track, giving priority to the voice of wisdom and reason, and urging it to intensify collective action and joint efforts to push towards a ceasefire. The conflict and ending the crisis in a way that enhances the security and stability of Sudan, leads to the bloodshed, and meets the aspirations of its brotherly people for development and prosperity.
