Europe’s right-wing parties hope to make headway in elections

The Netherlands has become yet another European Union country with a right-wing government, weeks before European elections. Almost six months after the parliamentary elections, radical right-wing populist Geert Wilders and three other parties agreed on a coalition agreement. inform Euronews and AP agency.

It is not yet clear who should become the new prime minister. The parties have yet to agree on a head of government. Wieders is expected to announce it on Thursday.

Future government parties include Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV), previous Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s right-liberal VVD, the new right-wing conservative NSC and the right-wing populist farmers’ party BBB.

Wilders and his anti-Islam party won 37 of the 150 seats in parliament in the November 22 elections. To get a majority, he needs at least two other parties.

The paper suggests that with far-right and populist parties now part of or leading half a dozen governments in the EU, they are likely to succeed.

“I hope we get there. I think we will get there. I don’t see anything going wrong,” Wilders told broadcaster NOS early on Wednesday.

  • From Finland to Croatia, conservative right-wing parties are part of European governing coalitions. Far-right prime ministers lead Hungary, Slovakia and Italy.
