The Minister of Environment meets with the Governor of South Sinai to discuss green projects

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, and Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, held an expanded meeting to discuss a number of common topics between the ministry and the governorate, the executive position and developments in green projects being implemented in South Sinai Governorate,  This came within the inspection tour of the Minister of Environment to the governorate, to follow up on the construction work in the village of Gharqana in the Nabq Reserve, in the presence of engineer Enas Samir, Deputy Governor of South Sinai, a number of the minister’s assistants, the South Sinai Reserves Sector, and the relevant leaders in the ministry and the governorate.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Yasmine Fouad thanked the Governor of South Sinai for the efforts he is making on the governorate’s land, especially in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, reviewing the work that has been accomplished in the project to develop the village of Gharqana in the Nabq Reserve for the benefit of the people of the local community residing in the reserve, and the best ways to manage the village jointly. After completing its establishment through the Ministries of Environment, Social Solidarity, and Conservation.

 

The executive position of the “Blue Hole” area development plan was also discussed during the meeting. In the Dahab region and offering it for investment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad emphasized that the Ministry seeks, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, to implement eco-tourism projects that are compatible with the characteristics of the Egyptian environment and sustainable management systems for natural reserve resources in a way that benefits local communities, achieves economic returns, and supports plans to preserve and protect natural resources.

 

Dr. Yasmine Fouad explained that the meeting also dealt with a review of the work done in the project to transform the city of Sharm El Sheikh into a green city (Green Sharm), which includes work on several basic axes, the most important of which is relying on the use of low-carbon technologies such as relying on solar energy and other mechanisms and management. Effective use of waste to achieve maximum benefit from it with the introduction of new and renewable technologies and the development of a model plan for waste, as well as reliance on green transportation and work to reduce water losses by improving the efficiency of desalination and sewage treatment plants to save waste, in addition to preserving biological diversity to support conservation and resource conservation measures. Natural resources in Sharm El-Sheikh to advance the city in an integrated manner that includes all dimensions of sustainable development. The developments in environmental procedures for the electrical interconnection project between the cities of Nuweiba and Catherine were also discussed, as well as the ministry’s contribution to lighting some of the roads in Sharm El-Sheikh.

 

During the meeting, the projects that are being implemented were discussed to help raise the efficiency of transporting and safe disposal of waste in the governorate, including the sanitary landfill in Sharm El-Sheikh, which was implemented at a cost of 35 million pounds, and is located on an area of ​​10 acres with a capacity of about 349 thousand cubic meters, which is a A sanitary burial cell contains a network of pipes to collect filtrate liquid, and an evaporation lake. The vault also has many equipment necessary for operations. The vault is surrounded by a network of service roads around the cell and the lake. Mechanisms for safe disposal of wastewater were also discussed at the level of the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, to preserve On the civilized appearance that befits Sharm El Sheikh as a green city.

 

 It was agreed upon during the meeting  On the establishment of a ministry  Environment by contributing to financially supporting the governorate in the project to complete the (Saghir Well) road in Nuweiba to serve the local population and tourism movement, as well as contributing to supporting financial allocations for the operation of the central park in Sharm El-Sheikh.  Where the Minister of Environment explained that all  The work carried out in the garden was carried out in accordance with sustainability standards and environmental requirements, adding that the development of the garden also comes in light of the interest in afforestation efforts to create environmental balance and prevent desertification, considering that trees act as a main wind deflector, and also give splendor and beauty to the surrounding area and protect the lands from any environmental damage.

 

For his part, Major General Khaled Fouda thanked Dr. Yasmine Fouad for her continuous efforts to advance environmental work, reviewing a number of measures implemented by the governorate in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the relevant ministries to activate and consolidate the concept of sustainable cities, represented by the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, explaining the governorate’s commitment to full cooperation within an integrated framework. With the Ministry of Environment and all development partners and stakeholders to continue the successes achieved in the governorate.

 

It is worth noting that Dr. Yasmine Fouad had undertaken an inspection tour to follow up on the construction work in the village of Gharqana in the Nabq Reserve in South Sinai Governorate. She announced that all foundation work had been completed for (51) residential units in the village of Gharqana, confirming that all construction work is proceeding according to schedule. The time frame set for its completion in the near future will be a living example of development that takes into account the environmental and heritage dimensions and supports the local population and environmental investment in the Nabq Reserve.< /p>
