Public finances : "It is totally insane that the return to balance is achieved solely on expenditure"judges the boss of the CFDT Marylise Léon

“It is totally insane that the return to balance is achieved solely on expenditure”, judge Marylise Léon, general secretary of the CFDT, invited Friday April 19 on franceinfo. Gabriel Attal did not want to detail on Thursday the options for the new envelope of 10 billion euros in savings expected for June, after a first decision in February. The Prime Minister, however, assured that the commitment to a tax cut of two billion euros “will be required”.

For Marylise Léon, “it is high time to look at the revenue side” of the State because “lower spending means less social spending for the most vulnerable, and that is totally unacceptable”. The CFDT does not “do not deny the problem of budget balance” but ask for “distribution of efforts” that is “fair”.

She specifies that “the question is not to tax everything”but many look where there is “the means of contributing to the effort to restore public accounts”. She gives as an example “taxation of financial transactions or taxation of higher incomes”. She also judges that the mission on the taxation of annuities entrusted to Jean-René Cazeneuve, Renaissance deputy for Gers, will “in the right direction”.

On Emmanuel Macron’s commitment to reduce two billion euros in taxes, Gabriel Attal affirmed that he “will be required”. But the boss of the CFDT is doubtful: “How does he finance it? That’s the question!”, she says. She judges “totally dogmatic” this position of the government which “tells us that we must lower taxes”while“we are in an exceptional situation, and we have been told that there is no magic money, but it is still in the pockets of the employees that they will get the money”.

Example given by the number one of the CFDT: the reform of unemployment insurance, for which the government wants to once again tighten the conditions of access. It is “the fake nose that the government presents every time”who claims, according to her, that “it’s for full employment”while the main reason for this reform, “it’s the budget”. With the same “dogma” of the government, namely to be “obsessed with spending”. The government’s objective with this new reform is therefore to “hit the most vulnerable, reduce their rights, recover money and pick the pockets of the unemployed to be able to resolve part of the deficit issue”. A maneuver that she judges “unacceptable, it’s pure madness to continue to say that we have to hit the most vulnerable”she is indignant.
