Véronique Sanson, tough on her son Chris Stills? “She never gave me a gift”

Chris Stills received a rather strict education from Véronique Sanson, who “never did him any favors”. The 50-year-old artist spoke about his childhood on the set of C à Vous…

Véronique Sanson is very close to her son, Christopher Stills, born from her love with Stephen Stills, and now 50 years old. The singer has also transmitted the music virus to her offspring who is today a singer-songwriter. But she sometimes showed uncompromising behavior with him…

Véronique Sanson “does not give a gift” to her son: “I was afraid”

Guest on the set of C to you on April 18, the artist spoke about his childhood alongside the interpreter of Need anyone and revealed the extent to which she intervenes in his music-making process. “A song is ready when you have the courage to play it in front of your mother“, first suggested the host Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine. A theory that Christopher Stills confirmed.

The musician has always valued the opinion of his mother, who was strict with him in childhood so that he had the courage to assert himself. “When I sing, I project a lot. I think it comes from the fact that when I was little, I brought him my songs like that and I sang like that (quietly, editor’s note) because I was scared and she said to me: ‘Go louder, I can’t hear you !’. Eventually it got on my nerves and I said, ‘Okay!’ I had to leave and she said: ‘That’s it, that’s it !'” he said.

Even today, Véronique Sanson does not hesitate to give her sincere opinion to her son: “She doesn’t give me any gifts. She never gave me any gifts“. Despite everything, the 74-year-old singer considers her son and his father, Stephen Stills, as “the two best musicians she knows“.

Véronique Sanson, “fan” of her son

She’s nice. I know she’s a lifelong fan of my dad, Stephen. And me, like a good mother proud of her son, I could have played football, she would have said the same. But then, I fell a little into the pot of music“, added this child of the ball who is releasing his EP, Where Love Is Found.

The interpreter of A night on his shoulder would have supported Chris Stills in all his career choices, but seeing him flourish in music remains his greatest pride. Véronique Sanson, who suffered from tonsil cancer in 2018 and is now much better despite some after-effects, also confided to Paris Match : “Deep down, I always hoped he would be a musician, no matter how complicated this life is. I enrolled him in piano lessons around 3 or 4 years old, like my father had done with me“. A strategy that worked!
