US aid to Ukraine: "The Americans can no longer stand protracted conflicts"estimates the spokesperson for the Republicans Overseas in France

“The Americans can no longer stand protracted conflicts from which they cannot see an outcome”, estimates, Saturday April 20, on franceinfo, Nicolas Conquer, spokesperson for the Republicans Overseas, which represents Donald Trump’s party in France. The American House of Representatives must vote on Saturday on aid to Ukraine after the situation has been blocked for several months. According to Nicolas Conquer, the Americans expected “a rather short conflict” and to “a resounding victory for the Ukrainians”.

For several months, Republicans have been blocking aid to Ukraine in Congress. Former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump believes that the United States must stop giving money without being reimbursed. According to Nicolas Conquer, Donald Trump wanted a “unbundling“of several measures included in this “omnibus bill”. This text brings together aid to Ukraine, but also to Israel and for the Indo-Pacific treaty “in favor of Taiwan”. A gigantic envelope of 95 billion dollars, including 61 billion for Ukraine, that President Joe Biden has been demanding for several months.

If the envelope is validated, around $10 billion in economic assistance dedicated to the energy and infrastructure sectors will be sent in the form of a loan. An idea from Donald Trump who wanted aid to be “a loan rather than just aid”, underlines the spokesperson for the Republicans in France. Nicolas Conquer recalls that “under the Trump administration”there was already “real financial aid which was provided to Ukraine and which helped it to prepare for this conflict which eventually occurred”.
