Conclusion of the activities of the ninth UAE conference for graduate students in Al Ain

Al Ain, April 21 / WAM / The activities of the ninth UAE Conference for Graduate Student Research, organized by the United Arab Emirates University, were concluded with the aim of highlighting the pioneering role of graduate student research in promoting the process of sustainable development and achieving the goals of the UAE’s ambitious vision to be the best country in the world by 2071.

The conference, which was held in the crescent building on the university campus, witnessed the presence of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President, Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Mualla, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Academic Affairs, and His Excellency Dr. Arif Sultan Al-Hammadi, Vice President. Executive Director at Khalifa University of Science and Technology and Chairman of the Conference Steering Committee, Dr. Ghaleb Al-Bariki, Acting Chancellor of UAE University, Dr. Abdul Qader Abu Safia, Vice President for Technology and Advanced Materials at Strata Manufacturing, Dr. Ahmed Murad, Associate Vice President for Scientific Research at UAE University, and a number of University presidents, members of the teaching and administrative bodies, and male and female university students.

In his speech during the opening of the conference, His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh stressed that the UAE’s commitment to promoting higher education is a firm priority, in the belief that graduate students are the driving force behind research and innovation in our universities, and that strong and distinguished graduate programs are the path towards our aspirations to achieve a prominent position in Global research field.

His Excellency said, “We in the UAE are aware of the challenges that graduate students face. Our universities are keen to make significant investments to provide what these students need to succeed. “We are committed to ensuring our students have the tools and resources they need to succeed.”

He pointed out that graduate students represent the future of research and innovation. He said: “The essence of this conference lies in the exchange of ideas, the sharing of knowledge, and the pursuit of academic excellence. Therefore, the importance of your participation in your valuable research means that today you have accessed a valuable opportunity that contributes to transforming your individual journey into a joint endeavor.” With others, this means that you realize the power of cooperation and knowledge sharing in building the future.”

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Mualla said: “There is no doubt that this conference will lead, through intellectual exchange, to improving research methodologies for graduate students, and will make it easier for them to communicate with fellow researchers from all over the UAE and abroad, and will open new horizons for future cooperation, which is “A powerful tool in today’s interconnected research landscape, and the presence of graduate students at this conference demonstrates the continuation of this vibrant research culture.”

In turn, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi said: “The ninth edition of the conference witnessed a major achievement represented by an increase in the percentage of accepted research papers that reached 180% since 2015, reaching 811 papers accepted out of 1,147 papers in 2024, with a noticeable increase of 238% in The health sciences track in particular. “The conference, with the support of 13 universities, fosters a collaborative research environment for postgraduate students, which underscores the development of research and innovation capabilities in the UAE.”

He added: “In the midst of this remarkable development, we continue to empower and prepare graduate students in the UAE, as we aim, by strengthening ties between the academic, industrial and governmental sectors and relevant international institutions, to facilitate cooperation that will drive innovation and shape the future of research and innovation inside and outside the country.” .

The opening included a speech by Dr. Susan Ortega – President of the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States of America, entitled “Higher Education for a Sustainable Future” and a discussion session on “The Role of Higher Education in Building a Sustainable Competitive Economy” with the participation of His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Mualla, Dr. Ghaleb Al-Buraiki, and Dr. Abdul Qader. Abu Safiya, while the session was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Murad.

The discussion session highlighted how academic institutions in the UAE align their higher education programs with the country’s goals of sustainability, achieving net zero emissions, and promoting the circular economy, and can research and innovation integrate with higher education in promoting a competitive and sustainable economy in the UAE. .
