Journalists: Meeting with "Acting professions" Wednesday… We call for stopping coverage of funerals and condolences until controls are put in place

   The Journalists Syndicate called for stopping coverage of funerals and condolences until controls are put in place that protect the sanctity of citizens’ personal lives while preserving the dignity and prestige of journalists.

 

The Syndicate explained – in a statement issued today, Sunday – that The head of the Acting Professions Syndicate, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, was contacted today to hold an urgent meeting on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Journalists Syndicate, in the presence of members of the two union councils and the executive office of the Photojournalists Division, to discuss the rules and mechanisms necessary to organize press coverage of such events.

He confirmed. The statement: The Journalists Syndicate respects the feelings of the families and friends of the deceased from all groups, stressing that covering funerals and condolences is journalistic work that documents an event of interest to the public and archives moments for the future.
