The Canadian Prime Minister renews his call to calm tensions in the Middle East

   Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday called again for calming tensions in the Middle East, following an air strike in Iran that was widely suspected to be a revenge attack by Israel.

Trudeau told reporters in Victoria, Rt., Columbia. “Everything must be done to prevent further escalation in the region and return to the path towards supporting the people in the region.” He added: “Canada condemns the absolutely irresponsible Iranian attack with missiles and drones on Israel over the weekend.” /p>

Earlier this week, liberals joined the United States in urging Israel not to respond, noting that Israeli officials believe they have thwarted 99% of the hundreds of weapons that Iran has dropped on their country.

Trudeau’s government took note of reports that Israel was behind a drone attack on a key air base in Iran, but stopped short of condemning Israel on Friday.

Instead, Trudeau again called for an outpouring of more. From humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip… once again Canada’s decades-long call for a two-state solution, that is, the establishment of a peaceful, secure, and democratic State of Israel living alongside a peaceful, secure, and democratic Palestinian state. On another level, the Canadian Prime Minister met with Polish President Andrzej Duda at the Canadian Forces base in Esquimalt in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Trudeau and Duda reaffirmed their firm support for Ukraine, more than two years after the start of the Russian invasion, They discussed ways to continue supporting Ukraine and expressed their support for President Zelensky and his efforts through the peace formula in Ukraine, according to a statement issued today by the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office.

The two leaders noted their shared commitment to strengthening transatlantic security and discussed the ongoing preparations for the Leaders’ Summit. During the upcoming NATO meeting in Washington, D.C., in July, they also discussed Canada’s potential contributions to Poland’s energy security, including through cooperation and trade in the nuclear energy and hydrogen sectors.

The meeting also saw discussions about security opportunities and challenges in the transoceanic region. Indo-Pacific, and received a relevant briefing from the Royal Canadian Navy.
