Cornes replies to claims Beveridge criticism is 'personal'

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has responded to Western Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains’ criticism of the media’s scrutiny of Luke Beveridge.

Speaking ahead of the Bulldogs’ 60-point win over the Saints last Thursday, Bains came to Beveridge’s defence, calling out the embattled coach’s critics in the media.

“The personalisation of some of it and the way it’s directed at the coach at times is over the top,” he told ABC Sport.

“We feel like there’s not much you can do about it other than perform and dispel it through wins and losses, and shift the focus elsewhere.”

Asked if there was pressure on Beveridge to keep his job, Bains dismissed the idea.

“No, no. As I’ve said a couple of times, it’s round five. He’s contracted until the end of next year,” he said.

Criticism of the Bulldogs has become widespread this season due to the dismal start to their 2024 campaign.

During last week’s episode of Nine’s Footy Classified — and in the wake of the Bulldogs’ shock loss to Essendon — Cornes called on the club to seriously consider moving on from Beveridge.
