Brazil and Japan agree to protect the Amazon rainforest to enhance efforts to combat climate change

Brasilia, 4 May / WAM / Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have agreed to strengthen efforts to combat climate change, including improving the protection of the Amazon rainforest.

During talks that took place between them yesterday, Friday, the two sides signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement on decarbonization and other environmental issues called the “Green Partnership Initiative,” which includes providing financial contributions and aid to renew degraded agricultural lands to prevent deforestation and promote sustainable agriculture.
The Japanese Prime Minister said, during a press conference with the Brazilian President, after the talks that his country will make a contribution to achieving carbon neutrality in the world, while Lula da Silva called for more investment in clean energy companies, stressing that climate change is an extremely serious problem.
It is noteworthy that the Japanese Prime Minister is currently on a tour in South America.
