The proportion of children to the total population fell by 0.2 percentage points to 11.3 percent, which is also the lowest level since comparable data became available in 1950.

According to United Nations data, Japan It has the second-lowest birth rate among 37 countries with a population of at least 40 million.

The Kishida government is seeking to pass a bill to address the country’s rapidly falling birth rate by providing more financial aid to families raising children and expanding day care services, although critics question whether such initiatives can reverse a decades-long trend.
