The National Institute for Human Rights participates in the meeting of national institutions at the United Nations

 The delegation of the National Council for Human Rights, headed by Ambassador Moushira Khattab and the membership of Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Vice President of the Council, and Council members Nihad Abu Al-Qumsan and Saeed Abdel Hafez, participated in the annual meeting of the national institutions of the United Nations.

The Council stated in a statement today that it Over the course of two days, the National Council delegation discussed with the members of the Global Coalition human rights issues and the challenges they face in the Arab and African region. The President of the Council contributed 7 interventions to the agenda items, the most important of which was emphasizing that what is happening in Palestine is subject to the Coalition’s discussions as it is related to violating the rules of law. The President of the Council stressed that the financial challenges facing national institutions require greater efforts to overcome these difficulties, and Khattab also called for working to implement the outcomes of the 2021-2022 coalition forum.  

 

The President of the Council also called for the coalition to review the guidelines related to the accreditation of national human rights institutions.

 

Today’s speech also called for the necessity of publishing the database on the International Coalition’s website.

 

On the other hand, Ambassador Mahmoud Karem participated in the symposium activities that discussed the role of national institutions in supporting and protecting rights. In his interventions, Karem addressed the challenges faced by national institutions in this context, presented the good practices undertaken by the National Council in Egypt, and addressed related complaints.
