The Minister of Higher Education discusses with the UAE University of Sharjah delegation mechanisms for joint cooperation

As part of the Ministry’s endeavor to enhance joint cooperation between Egyptian universities and their counterparts abroad, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met with a delegation from the University of Sharjah, headed by Ambassador Maryam Khalifa Al Kaabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States. Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Ammar bin Nasser Al Mualla, Attaché of Education and Technology Sciences for the UAE in Cairo, and Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, and the delegation accompanying them, in the presence of Dr. Abdul Wahab Ezzat, Secretary of the Council of Private Universities, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital.   At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the Emirati delegation, noting that Egyptian-Emirati relations are distinguished by their depth and ancient history, which extend to more than 20 years of friendship and brotherhood, stressing that these relations are a role model for Arab relations, because of the fruitful cooperation and complete harmony they carry at various levels. .

  During the meeting, Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed the Ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Arab and international universities, noting that the University of Sharjah is considered one of the distinguished universities in the Arab region, and has accumulated experience in the fields of education and scientific research, and a modern model in international partnerships and skills education.     The meeting discussed the establishment of a branch of the University of Sharjah within the Arab Republic of Egypt, in line with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was launched last year, and one of its principles relies on international reference and partnership between distinguished Egyptian researchers and other countries of the world, which strengthens the process. Educational, and supports development projects for state plans, pointing to the importance of innovation, as one of the main axes in the educational process, and linking it to international development plans for all economic activities.

  In this context, Dr. Ayman Ashour appreciated the establishment of a branch of the University of Sharjah in the Arab Republic of Egypt, pointing out that establishing a branch of the University of Sharjah in Egypt will be an important step towards strengthening academic cooperation between the two brotherly countries, providing distinguished educational opportunities for Egyptian and Arab students, and enriching the Egyptian university scene with scientific specializations. An innovative interface needed by the Egyptian, Arab, and international labor market.  

The Minister explained that establishing a branch of the university will contribute to the exchange of experiences and research between the two universities, and will also give Egyptian students the opportunity to study at a prestigious university with an international reputation without the need to travel abroad, pointing out that establishing a branch of the university will also enhance the position of The two countries are on the map of international higher education, and will attract more international students to study in Egypt.

  Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat reviewed the steps for establishing branches of foreign universities within the Arab Republic of Egypt, as Law No. 162 of 2018 was issued regarding the establishment and organization of branches of foreign universities within the Arab Republic of Egypt and university institutions. To benefit from the educational and research expertise of these universities, which contributes to creating a qualitative shift in this system, linking it to its counterparts in developed countries, and providing global higher education opportunities within the country to make it one of the beacons of education and scientific research at the global level.

  The meeting also reviewed the strengthening of the fields of science and technology in Egyptian universities, especially in the fields of computers, information and artificial intelligence, which was reflected in the increase in the number of faculties of these specializations in Egyptian universities, as the number of faculties of computers, information and artificial intelligence in Egypt increased significantly; To reach 91 colleges and institutes.

  The Minister also pointed out the establishment of the first international student city in the New Administrative Capital, modeled after the International Student City in Paris. As an important step towards strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional and international center for education and culture; This city aims to create a rich educational and cultural environment for students coming from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to interact, culturally exchange and communicate with their counterparts from different backgrounds.  

For her part, Ambassador Maryam Al-Kaabi expressed the brotherly Egyptian-Emirati relations, and the status of Egypt and its people in the UAE, looking forward to consolidating this relationship in the field of higher education and scientific research.   Sheikh Dr. Ammar bin Nasser Al-Mualla said that establishing a branch of the University of Sharjah within the Arab Republic of Egypt allows us to open a new page for cooperation in the field of higher education, noting that the University of Sharjah is considered one of the best universities in the world, and that choosing Egypt as the first country to establish its branch Due to Egypt’s status in the UAE.   Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi reviewed the colleges and specializations at the university, noting that the University of Sharjah is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the United Arab Emirates, as it is distinguished by its distinguished academic reputation and its diverse study programs that meet the needs of the local and global labor market, pointing out that the university ranks ( 61) in international rankings at the level of citations, and that the university relies on skills education, and it also has joint research in universities on five continents.   The Director of the University of Sharjah added that the College of Computers, Information, and Artificial Intelligence has been established, in addition to robotic cybersecurity. and its applications in technical and engineering disciplines; As new specializations are taught within the university, in addition to the faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences, and engineering, as well as a number of study programs that are updated in accordance with the latest international standards; So that the student is qualified for the labor market.

Dr. Sherif Saleh, Head of the Cultural Relations Sector, pointed to developing the system for accepting foreign students to study in Egyptian universities.

Dr. Mohamed El-Sharqawi, Assistant Minister for Policies and Economic Affairs, pointed to the growing number of foreign university branches in Egypt.   For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained that the higher education sector in Egypt has witnessed a tremendous boom over the past years, noting that we now have 109 universities between governmental, private, and technological, with framework agreements and university branches. International, stressing that there is an increasing demand for higher education in Egypt, and that the Ministry pays great attention to attracting students from various countries of the world, out of its belief in the importance of education as a soft power and a basic pillar of development and progress, in accordance with the 2030 strategy.   At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to develop a road map and form a joint committee to lay the required foundations.
