Al-Sisi and Guterres stress the importance of making the current ceasefire mediation in Gaza a success

Cairo, May 9 / WAM / Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the necessity of concerted international efforts to make the current mediation efforts for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip successful, in an effort to achieve a solution to this crisis situation and avoid expanding the circle of conflict.

They stressed the need to work to ensure the immediate and complete implementation of relief aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip in a sustainable and unhindered manner, especially with the collapse of the humanitarian system and the exposure of the people of the Gaza Strip to the risks of famine and epidemics, which requires the necessity of continuing full support for the work of UNRWA, which plays a pivotal role in supporting Palestinian people.

This came during a phone call that the Egyptian President received from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, this evening.

Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, said that the call included a review of the developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip at all levels, including the intense Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire and a truce agreement in the Strip, and what the current circumstances require.

He added that the call included a warning of the massive humanitarian consequences of the Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, which represents a serious obstacle to the regular exit of the wounded and sick to receive treatment, and the entry of humanitarian and relief aid.
