Europe Watches: Xi Jinping’s Bias Revealed in Paris

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly humiliated French President Emmanuel Macron by snubbing him during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Paris, according to Florian Philippot, leader of the French party “Patriots”.

Philippot characterized Macron’s encounter with Xi as one where Macron was “humiliated and ridiculed”.

“He demonstrates his submission by inviting Ursula von der Leyen: the Chinese chairman defines the real boss, talks more with her, and ultimately disregards Macron,” Philippot described the meeting in Paris on the X social network (formerly Twitter).

According to the leader of the “Patriots,” Macron also wanted to invite German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but he declined.

“The spirit of submission, which harms our national interests, humiliates France! EU membership weakens us!” Philippot concluded.

Chinese President Xi arrived in France on May 5 for an official two-day visit. During a press conference following the meeting with Xi Jinping, the French head of state stated that the country respects the longstanding ties between China and Russia.

On May 6, Xi Jinping stated that pressuring Russia over the situation in Ukraine is uninteresting to China. He described such a proposal from the West as offensive.
