"Al-Qabaj" She chairs the meeting of the Supreme Committee for the Elderly
Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, chaired the meeting of the Supreme Committee for the Elderly, in the presence of the members of the committee from the leaders of work in the care sector at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the leaders of the file for the elderly and representatives of the parties concerned with this file from Nasser Social Bank, the Ministries of Justice and Health, and a number of partner NGOs. And the experts.
The meeting discussed the committee’s agenda, including the recommendations of the previous meeting, and the position regarding the unified curriculum for the profession of caregivers for the elderly, as the draft curriculum was completed. In its first form and discussing the general framework of the national strategy for the elderly, as well as what was done regarding the preparation of an integrated map for the elderly in cooperation with the concerned authorities and urging nursing homes to exchange visits and experiences, in addition to the efforts of Nasser Social Bank regarding the “Giving Back” certificate. And supporting a number of physical therapy centers in nursing homes, in addition to implementing community campaigns to raise awareness of the issues and needs of the elderly and forming volunteer groups to promote these issues.
The Minister of Social Solidarity thanked Mr. President The Republic has approved Law No. 19 of 2024 promulgating the Elderly Rights Care Law, which was approved by the House of Representatives, as its most important objectives are to protect and care for the rights of the elderly and ensure their enjoyment of all social, political, health, economic, cultural, recreational and other rights.
 
Al-Kabbaj confirmed that the gains witnessed in the file of the elderly come from a human rights perspective to maximize the social, economic, health, psychological and political rights of this group and provide them with a decent life, especially since the number of the elderly in Egypt is estimated at more than 7 million. Almost a citizen.
The Minister of Social Solidarity referred to the efforts undertaken by the Ministry to develop a strategy for the elderly and to benefit from the models and experiences provided by countries in this field, and the Ministry seeks through this step To provide social care and improve the level of services provided, appreciating the decision of the Attorney General’s Advisor to include the protection of the elderly in the Child Protection and Persons with Disabilities Office, according to which an office was established for the first time in the Judicial Inspection Department of the Attorney General’s Office, specializing in the protection of the elderly.
The meeting witnessed the recommendation of the necessity of working on the profession of elderly caretaker and supporting it with all available mechanisms, in addition to holding a community dialogue to discuss the proposed curriculum with the participation of civil society and experts in preparation for the official issuance of the curriculum. As well as the importance of developing a map of integrated services for the elderly and giving broader attention to the psychological issues of the elderly, as well as studying small homes as one of the safe alternatives to nursing homes and conducting various studies regarding them.
