Aston Villa are in talks to sign Ross Barkley following his excellent season with Luton – as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad after qualifying for the Champions League

Ross Barkley is in talks over a move to Aston Villa after his outstanding season with Luton Town.

The 30-year old enjoyed a loan spell with Villa in 2020-21 and is keen to continue his career in the Premier League following Luton’s relegation.

Villa need depth for their squad after qualifying for the Champions League and want to add a full-back, versatile centre-back, such as Atletico Madrid’s soon to be free agent Mario Hermoso, two midfielders and a forward. Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is also of interest.

However, they will also need to sacrifice some of their squad to meet profit and sustainability guidelines.

Philippe Coutinho is wanted back in Brazil by Vasco da Gama while defender Diego Carlos is a potential target for AC Milan.

Unai Emery is looking to add greater depth to his squad after securing Champions League football next season  

Barkley enjoyed a loan spell with Aston Villa during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring three times in the Premier League 

Barkley joined Luton on a free transfer from Nice last summer and is available for a nominal fee.

The Englishman made 37 appearances for the Hatters this season across all competitions, scoring five times in the Premier Leauge, while returning four assists.
