Piers Morgan has come out swinging after Kanye West stormed out of their much-hyped interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, calling the rapper’s early exit “historic cowardice” and accusing him of wasting time and resources.
The fallout has been just as spicy as the interview itself, with both men taking to social media to share their sides of the story.
What happened with the Piers Morgan and Kanye West interview?
The drama unfolded on Tuesday night’s episode of Morgan’s YouTube show, with Kanye (also known as Ye) dialing in from a picturesque spot in Majorca, Spain, alongside social media personality Sneako.
Morgan opened with a simple “how are you?” and a comment about Ye’s scenic backdrop, but things turned tense almost immediately. When Morgan suggested Ye seemed relaxed “in direct contrast to your public image at the moment, over the last couple of years”, Ye shot back.
“But I already disagree, it’s not in contrast, there’s so many people and artists that are championing the idea of someone being able to just express who they really are, and have been able to go through the war of being attacked by the banks, being attacked, you know, by the banks – that’s the best way to put it!” Ye said.
“Being attacked by the banks, and to still be here with this view is, you know, that’s the win. So I think that’s, I’m in contrast to your contrast.”
The conversation then derailed over Ye’s follower count on X (formerly Twitter). Morgan said Ye had 32 million followers, which Ye immediately disputed: “Now, look, right now you’re not going to take inches off my dick, bro. Like, how many followers do I have?”
After Morgan’s staff confirmed it was actually 33 million, Ye accused Morgan of “not taking accountability or responsibility” and said, “This is what you get for now; we can revisit this when you can count.”
He then took off his mic and walked out, leaving Sneako to wrap things up.
Piers’ response to the Kanye interview
Piers Morgan didn’t hold back after the abrupt ending. In a video and several posts on X on Wednesday, Morgan described Ye’s behaviour as “historic cowardice,” adding, “They literally fled from me as I was asking them questions.”
He also called Ye a “big baby” and a “massive dick” in subsequent posts, making it clear he wasn’t impressed by the walkout.
Morgan further explained, “He was wasting our time and resources. My patience was nearly exhausted. I was informed during another debate that he was ready to talk. Then I was told, ‘Actually, he’s taking a phone call.’ He returned, and suddenly his greatness was available for me. I managed to speak with him for about three minutes.”
Ye hasn’t commented further, but did tweet at Piers, “Let’s have a real interview someday. It’s all love.”
Morgan replied, “We could have had one yesterday if you hadn’t run away before I could ask you any questions. When you’re prepared to actually do that let me know.”
There’s no word yet on whether the two will try again for a proper sit-down. But if this first round is anything to go by, I wouldn’t expect things to be any less chaotic next time.
