Victoria and Nicola’s fashion fallout! How Brooklyn’s wife has used her wardrobe to make sly digs at her mother-in-law

Whether it’s fashion week, a premiere or a family party, when the Beckhams get together with their inner circle it’s almost guaranteed that all the women, and some of the men, will be wearing Victoria’s designs – with one very notable exception.
Rumours of tensions between Brooklyn Beckham’s wife Nicola Peltz and his mother, Victoria Beckham reached fever pitch at the time of their wedding when the bride wore Valentino instead of one of her mother-in-law’s designs.
Those whispers died down over time when Nicola appeared at family events, and her in-laws posted gushing tribtues to the American actress on birthdays and supported her panned film Lola, which she wrote, starred in and directed, at the premiere.
Eagle-eyed followers, however, would have noticed that the gulf between the two women has been hiding in plain sight all along, with Nicola making subtle digs at her mother-in-law via her wardrobe choices.
As a friend told the Mail’s Alison Boshoff: ‘Do you notice Victoria offers her satin slip dresses to all her female friends to wear to her parties? Nicola really doesn’t like that and refuses to play that game any more.’
In addition to shunning Victoria’s brand boosting dress code, Nicola has found other ways to make her point, such as her outing at Paris Fashion Week last year when she didn’t wear VB to the designer’s show – unlike Cruz’s dutiful girlfriend Jackie Apostel.
Intstead, she stepped out in a vintage biker jacket so similar to one worn be her mother-in-law that at first everyone assumed it had come directly from the Spice Girl’s wardrobe.
Nicola later explained that her mother had gone to great lengths to buy her the jacket from a vintage auction after she showed her a photo of Victoria with Brooklyn as a child. The message could not be clearer: I’m the most important woman in his life now.

A family feud has torn Brooklyn and Nicola away from the Beckhams, but at one point it appeared the two were becoming one when Nicola sported a jacket once worn by her mother-in-law; pictured: the couple step out for Paris Fashion week in 2024

Nicola vs Victoria: The wedding dress
When Brooklyn and Nicola announced their nuptials in 2020, fans were eagerly expecting the bride to waft down the aisle in a Victoria Beckham dress.
But two years later Nicola sensationally claimed that her mother-in-law blanked her for days after offering to design her wedding dress – before blowing the bride’s plans out of the water and saying her studio couldn’t make actually make the gown.
The billionaire heiress ended up sporting a stunning couture Valentino dress when she tied the knot with Brooklyn in April, however she claims the initial plan was for her to wear a specially-made dress designed by his mother.
The then-newlywed said she was thrilled at the prospect of wearing a dress designed by Victoria, however she didn’t hear from the former Spice Girl for days before she rung to say she wouldn’t make the gown for her big day.
In a bombshell interview with Grazia USA, Nicola revealed: ‘We connected to start designing the dress, and then a few days went by and I didn’t hear anything. Victoria called my mom and said her atelier couldn’t make it.’
Doting husband Brooklyn made his position clear amid the family feud, telling the publication that Nicola is his ‘number one priority’ and that they ‘have each other’s back 100 per cent’.
The wedding dress drama was bolstered by the fact that Victoria not only wore her own dress design on the day – but four of her dearest friends and her own mother attended the nuptials wearing her designs.

Many say the conflict between Nicola and Victoria began in 2022 when the heiress sensationally accused Victoria of ‘blanking her’ after promising to design her wedding dress
Eva Longoria, Nadia Ferreria, Zanna Roberts Rassi, and Romeo’s then-girlfriend Mia Regan all wore gorgeous VB gowns to Brooklyn and Nicola’s big day.
Describing Victoria and David as ‘great in-laws’, Nicola admitted that it ‘hurt her feelings’ when it was reported that she had ‘never planned’ to wear a dress by her mother-in-law.
Nicola vs Victoria: Nicola snubs Victoria’s 50th birthday party
The fashion designer celebrated her milestone birthday on April 17 last year with an assortment of celebrity friends and family members at upmarket members only club Oswalds.
Hollywood legend Tom Cruise, Jason Statham and all four of Victoria’s former Spice Girls bandmates were in attendance, but Nicola was nowhere to be seen.

It’s no news that Victoria loves dressing her nearest and dearest in Victoria Beckham, as Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek and even her daughter, Harper Seven, 13, were all pictured wearing her label at the bash
By this time rumours of a fall out between the pair were at fever pitch, with many assuming Nicola exacted revenge on her mother-in-law after she failed to design a dress for Nicola’s wedding.
However Nicola claimed that was not the case and took to social media to announce that she was forced to miss out because her grandmother fell ill.
Paying tribute to her mother-in-law, affectionately referred to as ‘mil’ on Instagram, she wrote: ‘Happy birthday to my beautiful mil @victoriabeckham.
‘I’m so sad not to be there to celebrate you and hug you! Sending all my love from me and my naunni! I miss you all so much!’
But while Nicola missed out, husband Brooklyn joined siblings Romeo, Cruz and Harper at the star-studded event on the special evening.
Had Nicola attended, she may well have been urged to wear one of Victoria’s dresses given the majority of the female guests sported her designs, including daughter Harper, Eva Longoria, Mel B, Salma Hayek, nutritionist Rose Ferguson and make up artist Zanna Roberts Rassi.
Nicola vs Victoria: Nicola refuses to wear Victoria Beckham designs, claim insiders
Despite being surrounded by their parents’ wealth, the couple have long had their own things going on and have continued to carve out their own paths.
And while most would be enamored with a globally famous style maven who can hand off couture designs at the ready, it appears Nicola is keen to follow her own style road.

Nicola has persistently snubbed her mother-in-law’s label by choosing her own designs, even while attending the Netflix Beckham documentary premiere in London in 2023. Romeo’s ex Mia Regan, however, was head-to-toe in VB

However Nicola has persistently snubbed the fashion label by choosing her own designs, even while attending the Netflix Beckham documentary premiere in London in 2023.
In fact the actress was accused of stealing the show after turning heads in a red leather dress which she teamed with sheer tights and black leather boots.
Fans at the time claimed her ensemble commanded the most attention as the rest of the Beckhams sported more muted tones to the event.
Among the party was Romeo’s then girlfriend Mia Regan, who showed her support by wearing an £850 black floor-length cami dress from Victoria’s label, and carried one of her bags too.
It was the same story at Paris Fashion Week in 2024.
While Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel was a vision in a white satin dress, designed by Victoria, Nicola was again determined to forge her own path by wearing a quirky tuxedo-style corset with a bow tie to match Brooklyn’s.
Again the message was very much solidarity with her husband by sporting a matching look.
One of the few times Nicola has worn VB was at Paris Fashion Week in March 2023, just under a year after marrying Brooklyn and was doing her best to quash rumours that she’d fallen out with his mother over the wedding dress debacle.
She also wore custom Victoria Beckham to the LA premiere of her film Lola last year, and posed up a storm with her mother-in-law.
The gesture was perhaps not surprising given the fact that the star power of her in-laws was a welcome boost for the film, which critics branded a ‘vanity project’.
David and Victoria also both promoted the film on social media with the footabller declaring that he was ‘so proud’, and posing in a branded baseball cap.
Nicola vs Victoria Beckham: Nicola sports exact same jacket as Victoria
While stepping out in the exact same jacket your mother once wore may look like paying homage to some, we can’t help but wonder if Nicola had other intentions.
While the heiress has boldly turned down opportunities to rock Victoria Beckham’s couture line, the two became one when she donned the same leather jacket once spotted on Victoria.
In February 2024 Nicola shocked fans with her latest outfit choice during Paris Fashion Week.
The actress stepped out in the stylish Dolce & Gabbana leather jacket, which was the exact same one worn by the fashion designer in 2001.
The motocross jacket worn by Victoria originally cost £965, however they are now being snapped up second hand for £7,800 on one pre-loved site.
The jacket proved incredibly popular at the time with stars including Naomi Campbell, Madonna and Jennifer Saunders being spotted in it.
During the outing in the French capital, Nicola styled the iconic jacket with a pair of blue jeans and black platform heeled boots – a look that was no doubt met with an approving nod from her mother-in-law.
