Britney Spears has issued an apology after reports emerged that she had smoked a cigarette while on board a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles.
ICYMI, the pop star was the subject of much tabloid chatter earlier this week when multiple media outlets reported she had boarded a JSX charter plane and lit a cigarette, reportedly to the dismay of the plane’s staff.
Now, Spears has shared an apology on social media that basically doubles as an “Oops!…I Did It Again” reprise.
“My friend put [a cigarette] in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!”, the singer wrote alongside a video of herself enjoying a mid-flight bevvy.
Like legions of smoko-bound pub goers before her, Spears said she was hankering for a cigarette after indulging in her “first time drinking VODKA!”.
“I felt so clear and smart”, Spears said of her debut voddy (couldn’t be me), “and said I want a cigarette so bad”.
See, celebrities really are just like us, even though I’m the furthest thing from “clear and smart” whenever I’ve had a drink.
The singer went on to apologise directly to “anyone I offended” with the stunt, but said she still has a gripe with one of the flight attendants.
“She wouldn’t let me get out of my seat”, Spears claimed.
“She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird. I didn’t like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space.”
The lore only deepened when Spears deboarded the flight and was greeted by airport officials.

“I thought officials greeted me as support and I was like WOW I feel special”, Spears recalled, before claiming that the “flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette”.
According to Page Six, a customs employee at the airport graciously let Spears off with a warning, maybe because they were a superfan who just wanted her to release a new album.
It’s not yet known whether the smoking incident will play a part in the upcoming Spears biopic, but I for one would love to see rumoured star Millie Bobby Brown punching a dart.
