Resident Alien has been canceled after four seasons on USA Network despite its near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It was announced on Thursday that the current season, which began on June 6, would be the last. As it stands, the final episode is scheduled to air on August 8.
Created by Chris Sheridan, the sci-fi comedy drama – based off the comic book of the same name – premiered in January 2021.
The show follows the adventures of extraterrestrial Harry Vanderspeigle, played by Alan Tudyk, who lands on Earth and assumes the identity of a small-town doctor after accidentally killing him.
Based in Colorado, the alien soon becomes enthralled by human beings and instead of exterminating, forms connections with them.
Resident Alien has proved to be hugely popular since its release. On the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, it has an impressive average score of 98 percent.
Its Rotten Tomatoes score surpasses that of other wildly popular shows like The Last of Us, which sits at 93 percent, as well as Stranger Things, which has a score of 83 percent.
Showrunner Sheridan broke his silence on the series’ axe in a statement shared with TV Insider.

‘I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,’ he said.
‘Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.
‘I’m so proud of how good season four is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.’
Despite his words, devastated fans expressed their disappointment over the news on Reddit.
One said: ‘You know what? This is some bulls**t.’
‘My day just got immeasurable worst,’ another wrote.
A third continued: ‘Seriously! What the heck.’
‘Sad,’ another simply penned. ‘Love this show.’

A fifth added: ‘I’m devastated… They effectively killed a great show. Shame on them.’
‘Seems inevitable that every show I like gets canceled,’ continued a sixth. ‘I feel extra bad because it’s my dad’s current favorite of everything we watch together.’
All three seasons of Resident Alien were added to Netflix in March and it fast became the eighth most-watched series in the UK.
At the time, fans of the show praised the writing as ‘fun’ and ‘witty’ and branded the characters ‘hilarious.’
