IED recovered in Tarn Taran; conspiracy by BKI-ISI foiled

An improvised explosive device (IED) has been recovered in Tarn Taran, a development that police said helped foil a conspiracy hatched by the extremist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise Punjab ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X, “Acting on credible human intelligence, #AGTF along with @TarnTaranPolice initiated a search operation and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in #TarnTaran, before it could reach Harwinder @ Rinda’s associates. IED was carefully transported to a secure place for controlled detonation.”

An explosive ordnance disposal team was called for diffusing the IED and subsequently a first information report was registered at Tarn Taran under the Explosives Act.

“There is a conspiracy to terrorise Punjab before August 15. Terrorist groups are planning bomb blasts in Punjab. However, due to the activeness of Punjab Police, such nefarious conspiracies are being foiled,” said an official. “Punjab’s Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has foiled a major terrorist conspiracy hatched with the help of Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International designated terrorist Harwinder Rinda and Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.”
