BREAK! *Aryna Sabalenka 2-0 Amanda Anisimova

Sabalenka does what Anisimova could not and takes her opportunity to break early! Anisimova is rushed into consecutive forehand errors, with Sabalenka taking charge to move ahead.

Anisimova went a break down in the first set against Swiatek and Osaka – but not having the opportunity to go ahead herself.

What a gripping start already. Anisimova’s huge return brings up two more break points but Sabalenka stays alive, with the American going long against the second-serve.

Sabalenka has to wait for a butterfly to leave the court, and escapes with a battling hold as Anisimova fires long on the forehand.

Three break points saved from Sabalenka.

Sabalenka goes from 30-0 up to break point and 30-40!

But this is all about the Anisimova backhand. She rips one down the line and then attacks the Sabalenka second serve. The World No 1 already feels the pressure and double faults!

A break point already! But Anisimova goes wide on the second-serve return.

The big question as we prepare to start the US Open final is how Anisimova will settle into her second grand slam final.

She of course made the worst possible start against Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon, going on to lose 6-0 6-0.

But she has returned to the US Open a more resilient player. She lost her serve in the opening game against both Swiatek and Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and yet bounced back.

The second question is how Sabalenka will react to Anisimova’s ball. These are two of the biggest hitters in the game, and Anisimova leads the head-to-head.

Sabalenka won the toss and elects to serve.

Here we go! The players are yet to take to the court, but we will start with the United States national anthem. Always special to have an American player in the final, with Amanda Anisimova looking to follow Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens by winning their first grand slam title in New York.

What’s at stake for Aryna Sabalenka

If Sabalenka wins the US Open title…

  • It would be her 4th Grand Slam singles title (all on hard court)
  • She would become the first woman to win consecutive US Open singles titles since Serena Williams (from 2012-2014)

US Open final: Aryna Sabalenka in third straight final

In 2023, Aryna Sabalenka was stunned by Coco Gauff in a brutal US Open final defeat. In 2024, the World No 1 earned revenge as she defeated Jessica Pegula to win her first title in New York.

But 2025 has been a frustrating year for Sabalenka with defeats in two grand slam finals and another heartbreaker at Wimbledon, losing to Amanda Anisimova.

For the third year in a row, Sabalenka plays an American in the US Open final. Which way will it go?
