Two of pop music’s biggest icons, Charli xcx and Taylor Swift, may be entering enemy territory as fans theorise that Charli is about to drop a diss track on “The Fate of Ophelia” singer.

Fans started ruminating on the theory earlier today as Charli posted a mysterious clip on X. It’s a video taken in a music studio with a five-second clip of ominous music playing, captioned with nothing but a “<3”.

Both brat fans and Swifties think that Charli could be working on a response to Taylor’s diss track, “Actually Romantic”.
While Taylor hasn’t explicitly confirmed the woman she’s referencing in the song from her latest album, The Life Of A Showgirl, is in fact Charli, she did say in an Amazon Music interview that it’s about someone who has a one-sided, unfavourable opinion of her.
“And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea,” she said.
Taylor describes the ‘too much’ in her lyrics, writing “I heard you call me ‘boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face”.

Charli is known to be quite the party girl, plus her husband George Daniel is Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, Matty Healy‘s, bandmate. And in “Sympathy Is A Knife”, Charli sings “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show”, which heavily hints to Taylor.

One TikToker has called the simmering tea between Charli and Taylor a “diva off”.
Fans are pretty divided in the comments. One Charli supporter said “Period! Drag boring Barbie outtt”, while another wrote “No I love it BC it’s kind mutually beneficial for both of them”.
We don’t know for sure whether Charli’s actually writing a diss track, or if she’s working on an entirely different project. But some fans are speculating that they’re both actually in on it… and the two pop divas are going to work it out on the remix.
It’s nothing new for Charli. In her album brat, Charli wrote “Girl, So Confusing” about her complex feelings surrounding fellow singer, Lorde. In the remix edition of the album, Lorde joined Charli on the same song, where they hashed out their differences in a masterpiece that made the internet go crazy — as their lyrics predicted.
Some fans are speculating that Charli isn’t writing a diss track at all, but is working on music for the upcoming Wuthering Heights film. One user wrote “Everyone looking at this & thinking “OMFG SHE’S GONNA DROP A TAYLOR DISS TRACK”…Meanwhile I’m off to side going “I know y’all turned Wuthering Heights(2026) into a Punching Bag Already but did y’all forget Charli XCX is doing Music for it. This clearly sounds like for that”…”

Whether you’re team Charli, Swiftie or love both singers equally, things are either about to get a whole lot messier or absolutely iconic. Dare I say both?!
Either way, I hope they sort out their differences soon, because the pop girlies have been thriving, and I don’t want that to change any time soon.
