Dr. Sweilem is following up on efforts to remove encroachments on the Nile River and its branches

Prof. Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, held a meeting to follow up on the efforts of the Nile River Development and Protection Sector in removing encroachments on the course of the Nile River and the river’s drainage lands, in coordination with the relevant state agencies, within the framework of the “Nile Control Project.” Which is one of the axes of the second generation of the Egyptian irrigation system 2.0.
Dr. Sweilem pointed out that any encroachments on the river’s course negatively affect the ability of the stream to pass the water flows required to meet the various water needs, and therefore the Ministry confronts any encroachments on the river’s course with all decisiveness and nips the encroachments in the bud.
His Excellency stressed the importance of immediate action to restore the drainage capacity of the Nile River along the course in general and in the Rosetta branch in particular, after it was lost due to encroachments on the river’s sanctuary during the previous decades, noting that removing encroachments on the river’s course works to increase the water system’s ability to face any emergency, cover citizens’ water needs, and deal with flood situations.
He stressed. Dr. Sweilem urges the continued follow-up by all Nile protection departments to nip any attempts at encroachment in the bud and before they escalate within the activities of wave “27” It is currently being implemented, with all cases carefully studied from all technical and legal aspects to determine the optimal path to deal with them.
