Urgent.. The UNESCO General Conference approved an election "Anani" Director General of the organization

The General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted Dr. Khaled Al-Anani was elected as the new Director-General of UNESCO, during the elections held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

 

Dr. Khaled Al-Anani assumes the position of Director-General of UNESCO in a historic achievement, as the first Egyptian, Arab, and second African to hold this high position, in a step that reflects the prestigious status and international weight of Egyptian foreign policy under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah. Al-Sisi, and at a critical stage that the region and the world are witnessing.

The election of Dr. Al-Anani was approved with the support of 172 out of 175 member states of the General Conference, in a clear indication of the great confidence he enjoys at the international level, and of his competence and comprehensive vision for the work of the organization and its future.

On this occasion, with the end of the Egyptian nomination campaign for the position of Director-General of UNESCO after more than 30 months of hard work and intense and continuous effort, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, extended his warmest congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and to the Egyptian people and the Arab and African peoples, on this well-deserved victory, which is a new achievement added to Egypt’s record of successes on the international scene.
