‘The Grinch’s Taylor Momsen Recalls Jim Carrey “Freaked Out” When She Almost Got Injured On Set: “He Was Incredibly Protective”

As How the Grinch Stole Christmas marks 25 years, Taylor Momsen recently recalled how the man behind the furry green suit had her best interest at heart.
The Cindy Lou Who actress said that Jim Carrey “was incredibly protective” of her on the set of the 2000 Ron Howard-helmed adaptation of Dr. Seuss‘ beloved holiday children’s book.
“I remember when we were shooting the scene coming down the mountain on the sled,” she told Vulture in an oral history of the movie. “It was this real sled that was up on a giant spring that was being controlled and moving from side to side, very aggressively.”
Momsen continued, “Jim is leaning over and being extravagant Jim. There was a moment where I almost fell out of the sled, and he freaked out. He called cut and started checking in on me. I was having a great time. I was laughing; I wasn’t thinking about the fact that I just almost fell very high off the ground.”
Noting that she “always felt really safe with Jim” while making the movie, Momsen recounted doing her own stunts. “I did go to Who school. I had to go through stunt training because I was doing my own stunts,” she said.

“I had to learn to fly on wires and how to fall correctly onto the pad,” added Momsen. “I fell through a trap door. I had to slide down a massive slide that you had to climb up using a rope because there was no stairs to it. The only stunt I didn’t do myself was the actual shooting out of the trash can at the end.”
Following her breakout roles as Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Jenny Humphrey in Gossip GirlMomsen stepped away from acting in 2010 to focus on her music career. She recently reunited with Carrey for the first time since the movie premiered.
