Following a cast announcement earlier this year that was about as stretched-out as Mister Fantastic himself, Marvel has dropped the first official teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.
The upcoming instalment — directed by the Russo Brothers and led by Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom — will serve as the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and stars a massive A-list ensemble.
Now, as if it weren’t enough to have Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum among the cast, the new trailer has revealed that another former Sexiest Man Alive will reprise their superhero role.
The 90-second teaser features Chris Evans, aka Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, riding a motorbike along a country road before arriving at a house. He then walks inside, picks up his Captain America suit and holds a baby.
A title card then confirms what fans had already assumed by that point: “Steve Rogers Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday.”
The trailer quickly racked up over 5.6 million views on YouTube in its first seven hours, but the majority of comments were from fans pointing out that they had already seen the trailer thanks to a series of online leaks in recent days.
“They knew they can’t control the leaks anymore,” one person wrote.
“Love how casually they released it after all the leaks,” another added, while a third joked that the film should be called “Avengers: Damage Control”.
“This is definitely the first time I’ve watched this teaser on the internet,” someone else commented.
Who is in Avengers: Doomsday?
Before Chris Evans was confirmed to return, Marvel announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday via a five-hour-long livestream in March.
The names of 27 castmates were revealed on the back of directors’ chairs, with the most surprising being the return of OG X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Their respective characters, Professor X and Magneto, will officially join the MCU alongside fellow beloved mutants Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn.
Of course, the Avengers themselves will also do what they do best and assemble on screen. That includes role reprisals from Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.
Black Panther, Deadpool, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four will also be represented on screen, making Avengers: Doomsday one of the most anticipated films of the decade.
The full cast, listed in no particular order, includes:
- Chris Hemsworth
- Vanessa Kirby
- Anthony Mackie
- Sebastian Stan
- Letitia Wright
- Paul Rudd
- Wyatt Russell
- Tenoch Huerta Mejia
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach
- Simu Liu
- Florence Pugh
- Kelsey Grammer
- Lewis Pullman
- Danny Ramirez
- Joseph Quinn
- David Harbour
- Winston Duke
- Hannah John-Kamen
- Tom Hiddleston
- Patrick Stewart
- Ian McKellen
- Alan Cumming
- Rebecca Romijn
- James Marsden
- Channing Tatum
- Pedro Pascal
- Robert Downey Jr.
Of course, fans would notice that several MCU stars are absent from the list, including Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
When will Avengers: Doomsday be released?
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday began in April 2025 and wrapped in September. While the film was originally scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, it’s since been delayed to December 18, 2026, to allow more time for production to be completed.
So basically, that gives you 11 months and 24 days to binge every previous Marvel (and now X-Men) film before it hits cinemas next year.
Movie snacks, assemble.
