It’s a common and frustrating experience to buy a brand-new item, only to find it packaged in a thick, sealed plastic packaging.
However, one Aussie mum has stumbled upon a mind-blowing trick to open those plastic blister packets without resorting to a pair of scissors or risking injury.
Brisbane woman Amy Freeman recently revealed the simple – but genius – way to navigate these notoriously hard-to-open plastic packs.
‘Am I the only one who didn’t know how to open this type of packaging correctly?’ she asked in a recent video.
Holding up a packet of $2 Kmart Anko 7in. Scissors, the 40-year-old showed how the scissors are entrapped within the form-edged plastic package.
‘I thought you had to use scissors to open it,’ she said, holding up the stationery staple.
She even demonstrated how she’d previously always ‘cut, cut, cut’ all the way around the edges to open this type of package.
But Amy said she’d recently discovered that there was a far simpler way to open these types of packets, simply by squeezing them.

‘So much stuff comes in this type of packaging,’ she noted.
Amy told Daily Mail that she first learned the trick after a friend showed it to her.
‘My friend had just purchased something in that type of packaging and I said “But we don’t have scissors to open it”,’ Amy recounted. ‘But them my friend said we don’t need them – and proceeded to squeeze it open! My jaw dropped!’
Amy’s video was shared to both Instagram and TikTok and exploded with thousands of likes, shares and comments on both platforms. The vast majority of replies were from people who were simply stunned to discover this kind of packaging could be so easily opened without scissors.

‘This should be taught at school,’ laughingly added another person. ‘Life skill.’
However, some people who claimed to have tried this hack advised proceeding with caution.
‘The squishing trick works about 50/50 but some of them will still cut you,’ they claimed. ‘Possibly a different plastic on those or something.’
‘Sorry. I just tried this and it didn’t work. Back to my knife,’ another said.
‘Doesn’t always work. This only works with cheap packaging. Some of them are sealed so tight that you need to fight them.’
Mum-of-four Amy Freeman regularly shares glam fitness and fashion posts to her social media accounts. The viral video about how to open thick plastic packages was a slight departure from her usual content
However, many were grateful for the advice, agreeing that the most problematic time they’d faced this was when they had ironically bought a new pair of scissors.
