South Camden crash: One person dead and another fighting for life after horror smash – as Old Hume Highway is closed in both directions

A person has died and another is fighting for life after a horror two-car crash that shut down a major highway in both directions. 

Emergency services were called to the Old Hume Highway at South Camden, about 65km south-west of Sydney, about 11.30 on Saturday. 

The highway is closed in both directions at the intersection of Camden Bypass. 

Drivers are being diverted via Burragorang Road and Cawdor Road. 

‘Ongoing police investigations are expected to take some time,’. Transport for NSW said in statement on its website. 

Motorists have been told to avoid the area.  

In footage from the scene, a cream and a red hatchback are seen with significant damage. One of the vehicle’s windshield has been completely shattered. 

A man was seen being consoled by bystanders at the scene.  

Police and Fire and Rescue NSW have erected large tents at the crash site. 

Daily Mail has contacted NSW Police in relation to the crash.
