Woman, 25, who was too overweight to have IVF on the NHS lost six stone on fat jabs before welcoming ‘Mounjaro baby’

A young woman who was too heavy for NHS IVF treatment claims that she fell pregnant naturally just weeks after shedding six stone while taking Mounjaro.

Chloe Rose, 25, a beautician from Stanwell, Surrey, began trying for a baby with her husband Jack in 2019.

But after years of negative pregnancy tests, they were placed on an NHS fertility treatment trial in January 2024.

She said: ‘I ended up putting a lot of weight on while I was on the trial, so they took us off the trial entirely because of my weight.

‘I think the fact that I couldn’t do it because I weighed too much put into my head that if I want any further treatment anywhere for my fertility, I’m going to have to lose weight.

‘I’d tried every diet, every exercise, I was going to the gym while I was on the trial but nothing was working.’

Realising she would need to lose weight in order to fulfil her dream of starting a family, Mrs Rose ordered Mounjaro from an online pharmacy in July 2024, handing over £135.

After years of struggling to shed the weight due to health conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), arthritis and the steroid medication she was taking, she was thrilled to lose six stone in just five months.

Ms Rose, who doesn’t wish to disclose her starting weight, slimmed down from a size 20 to a size 10.

Just weeks after she stopped using the jab, the couple found out they were pregnant on January 20, 2025.

Mrs Rose said: ‘I was ecstatic when I found out I was pregnant, but I was obviously terrified because you are meant to not be on Mounjaro for two months before you fall pregnant.

‘I was terrified that I’d done something by mistake.

‘I really wasn’t expecting it because before this, I hadn’t had a period for six years because my PCOS was so bad.

‘I fell pregnant without having a period so I just wasn’t expecting it at all. I was so happy and so excited that I got where I wanted to be eventually.

‘At that point we’d been trying for a baby for six years.’

Her baby girl, Jeanie, was born on September 18th 2025, weighing 5lbs 1oz.

The mother of one credits Mounjaro with helping her to lose the weight she needed to in order to fall pregnant.

She said: ‘Mounjaro helped to give me the baby I’d always hoped for.

‘I think that the weight loss is massively what did it, but Mounjaro definitely kickstarted that journey for me.’

Despite this, she says she wouldn’t recommend Mounjaro to everyone.

She said: ‘I think Mounjaro helped me to lose weight, but the weight loss is what helped me to fall pregnant.

‘If people are struggling with their weight and they would like to get pregnant, I would say try Mounjaro, but it depends on why people are struggling to get pregnant.

‘It’s such an open-ended conversation, there are many aspects of people struggling to get pregnant.

‘Going on it won’t always help you fall pregnant, but it definitely helped me.’

An estimated 1.6million adults in England, Wales and Scotland used weight loss drugs, such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, between early 2024 and early 2025, according to a University College London study.

There’s also been a rise in ‘Mounjaro babies’ conceived while users are taking the jabs – even if they’re using contraception.

Doctors say it is possible they could raise the likelihood of pregnancy because the weight loss they cause can reduce inflammation and boost the menstrual cycle, which may help someone to conceive.

Side effects of the drugs, such as vomiting, could also stop contraceptive pills from being absorbed, raising the likelihood of an unexpected pregnancy.

A spokesperson for Lilly, which manufactures Mounjaro, said: ‘A Mounjaro (tirzepatide) should only be used when prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional, and prescriptions should be fulfilled and supplied by registered pharmacies or providers.

‘We encourage patients to consult their doctor or other healthcare professional to discuss any possible side effects they may be experiencing and to ensure that they are getting genuine Lilly medicine.’
