‘XO, Kitty’ Season 3 Stars Anna Cathcart And Sang Heon Lee Unpack Those Final Scenes And Season 4 Hopes: “There’s A Lot To Look Forward To”

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers for Season 3 of Netflix’s ‘XO, Kitty.’
It looks like Min Ho Moon (Sang Heon Lee) has a big moment coming for him hinted by XO, Kitty Season 3’s last scene tucked behind the show’s title card in the finale.
If what Kitty says to her beau as they settle into business class plane seats to head to Portland over winter break is to come true, Min Ho will have met most of the important people in Kitty’s inner circle of family and friends. Just Dan Covey (John Corbett) stands in his way.
“The scene where Min Ho hears Kitty saying, ‘Wait until you meet my dad,’ I think Min Ho had a slight moment where he’s thinking, ‘Oh, right about that, yeah. I have to, I’ve got that to face,’” Lee tells Deadline in an interview ahead of Season 3’s launch. “But I think, later on, after he gets off the plane, maybe we’ll see him be chill about it until he arrives right at their doorstep. I think that’s when it will hit him the most, and we’ll see how he does. We might see him freak out a little bit, or we might see the cute, funny, awkward side of it. I’m not sure. I think there’s a lot to look forward to.”

Corbett’s beloved father to the Song Covey girls appeared in Season 1 of the series, seeing Kitty off to KISS and supporting her through a romantic crisis before she went home for mid-semester break.
“I think it would be so fun to see [Min Ho] in the Covey house. I really hope we get the chance to continue that story and see what happens, because I think there is something so special and so intimate about showing someone your hometown,” Cathcart adds. “I think Kitty’s so excited to invite him into her world, because she knows Min Ho in his world, and he knows Kitty in Min Ho’s world as well. They’re never really in a space that’s truly hers, and that he’s the fish out of water. She’s always trying to learn and adjust to the new spaces she’s in in Korea. It would be so fun and bring them a lot closer for sure.”
Dr. Covey and his wife Trina (Sarayu Blue) haven’t been back since, but other characters from the trilogy of films based on Jenny Han’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before books have taken up the torch in Seasons 2 and 3. Lana Condor reprised her role of Lara Jean Song Covey, star sister of the Netflix movie trilogy, to both be helped by Kitty and help her out in Season 3.

When Kitty and Min Ho hit a rough patch mid-season, LJ flies to Seoul to cheer Kitty up and encourage her to submit her college application to New York University by the early decision deadline for the best chances of getting in. Kitty holds back at first, but Lara Jean helps her work through her tangle of thoughts around the future and whether she and Min Ho will get back together. This decision of keeping one’s partner in mind when going to college is not new to the Song Covey sisters.
“We’ve seen now all three sisters battle and struggle with that concept of going to college with a partner, and how you want to make sure you’re making a choice for yourself,” Cathcart says. “Making a choice just based off of you and what you actually want, and not because of someone else is something that all three Covey sisters have really thought about really heavily because of advice that their mom had given them, or just seeing their other sisters now go through that too.”
Janelle Parrish’s Margot, the eldest Song Covey daughter — who also has yet to meet Min Ho, broke up with her longtime boyfriend Josh (Israel Broussard) before she went to St. Andrew’s University in Scotland in the films, and Lara Jean faced the decision to stay with Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) while they attended schools on the opposite side of the United States with Peter at Stanford and LJ attending NYU.

“Lara Jean did a different kind of route and different storyline, and Kitty is really figuring out what hers looks like and what is best, but I also think it’s important that she talks to Lara Jean in this moment of [a] pivotal life path and trajectory-changing [choice],” Cathcart says. “I think it’s really important to hear from Lara Jean that love can be worth the effort and can be worth the risk. It might change, and you don’t know, but, that’s part of it. That comes with love, always. You can’t try and plan it all out, but you have to do what feels right in this moment. And you can’t stop living because these things are uncertain. That’s a really big takeaway from the season in general.”
Kitty does get into NYU, and, for a moment, this deters Min Ho from talking with her after their big fight and breakup to ultimately get back together.
“I hope, and I know that Kitty will do what’s best for her, and she does, and she follows her heart even when she doesn’t mean to. I think she’s so fiercely loving in all areas of her life that going to NYU feels right for her at the moment, and I’m very curious what that would look like for her and Min Ho next year when they’re both out of school,” Cathcart continued. “I think that would bring a lot of new challenges, but sometimes it can be worth it, worth the craziness, because they want to be together so much.”
